Using existing Microsoft products on a new PC system?
#1
I have an old XP System and am thinking of getting a new desktop PC with either Vista or XP home on it what I am trying to find out is if my existing Microsoft Applications (namely Publisher 2003 & Microsoft Office 2003) both legitimately bought with CD Keys on the case that I can carry on using them on my new PC will there be any problems activating them on the new PC obviously because I have already bought these in the past and have been happy are happy with using them I don't want to go out and buy these again just because I want to change my my PC for a new one. Any advice please and can you keep it simple - thanks.
Thanks for the replies so far.
Update:
I cannot get into the old PC by normal or safe mode to uninstall office and publisher could that cause further problems?

For Office, if you have only 1 license and you want to relocate the software to the new PC, so you must uninstall the current application in the old PC. Basically it should work, otherwise you can call Microsoft Representative to check about it.

hi there
there are no reasons why your current Publisher 2003 & Microsoft Office 2003 should not work with your new p.c
however the only problems that may occur will be compatibility issues with vista ,but the two application should reinstall without any problems
there are also patches and updates avalible for both applications at http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/downloads/FX101321101033.aspx?pid=CL100570421033
also go to http://www.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/muoptdefault.aspx?returnurl=http://www.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate&ln=en-us,once you have re-installed both Publisher 2003 & Microsoft Office 2003 and see if there are any avalible security and application updates for your specific products
any problems with any of these products you can contact me on the link on my answers profile,or contact microsoft directly on 0870 60 10 100..or send a letter to the following address:
Microsoft uk
Microsoft Campus
Thames Valley Park

you can also e-mail them using this link : https://support.microsoft.com/contactus2/emailcontact.aspx?scid=sw;en;1348&WS=mscomukform1
good luck !

You will need to uninstall the copies of your Microsoft applications on the old pc before installing them on your new pc. Office 2003 will work on Vista as I have tried it myself although now I use OpenOffice (http://www.openoffice.org).

I would recommend that you stick with XP. Vista may have a different user interface (the graphical part that you look at) but it will run slowly on your computer. Ideally you want at least 2GB of ram if you are using Vista whereas you can use much less with XP.
